delay as a result of unforeseen circumstances

A situation which was not covered in the building contract has cropped up. If there is a delay because of something is it the builder's fault?

In order to answer this question, you would need to provide some additional information in order to determine if the circumstances were contemplated by the contract.
In addition, it will be difficult to determine if it is covered by the contract without first having a look at the clauses that relate to extensions of time or delay costs. These are likely to be the clauses that relate to the builder taking additional time to complete the project.

Suggested way forward

Gather together the relevant documents (e.g. the contract) and further clarify the nature of the delay that has occurred.
