Lawyers in Children's Court

Will my child get a lawyer when he goes to the children's court of do I need to get him one before?

Your child will generally be provided with a Legal Aid Lawyer at court. However he or she would ordinarliy qualify for Legal Aid funding for specialist Childrens lawyers (private lawyers) to assit him or her free of charge - funded through Legal Aid. They can do this before court. This is certainly the case in Victoria. If you see lawyer before court in the comfort of their offices you can be less stressed on the day of court because you have a strategy in the case and you will not join a lengthy queue of people on the day waiting for a 'duty' lawyer. You should contact the Law Institute or Society or look up Accredited Childresn Law Specialist and make an appointment before court - most will do first appointment free if you ask. Good luck.
