B.A., LL.B (Hons), Dip Mus (Practical) - Senior Associate Oscar’s interests lie at the intersection of the law and the creative/cultural and media industries. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons), a Bachelor of Arts, and a Diploma of Music (Practical) from the University of Melbourne.
Oscar.jpg Oscar joined Marshalls + Dent in 2012 from the Centre for Media and Communications Law at the Melbourne Law School, where he worked as a research and editorial assistant.
Oscar’s research and analysis on Australian copyright law was published in the Media and Arts Law Review ((2011) 16 MALR 90). He has also contributed to the Fortnightly Review.
Since joining Marshalls + Dent, Oscar has developed a broad practice in the Media Department. He has worked on a number of feature films, including Mental (2012), and television series, including The Time of Our Lives (2013, ABC) and Dance Academy Series 3 (2013, ABC). He has also worked on the television documentaries, Sons and Mothers (2013), The Unlikely Pilgrims (2013, ABC), and The Grey Man (2013, ABC).
Oscar is particularly experienced with: music (including music for film and television) intellectual property clearances defamation advice copyright infringement advice and litigation advice on misappropriation of trading reputation and goodwill (misleading and deceptive conduct, ‘passing off’, and related areas). Oscar is actively involved in Melbourne’s music scene; he DJs regularly as a member of Two Bright Lakes DJs and plays trumpet in the contemporary electronic music groupSpeed Painters. Every now and again Oscar also has the pleasure of playing trumpet with deep pop thinkers Dick Diver.
