Virginia Beniac-Brooks has over twenty five years’ experience working in the intellectual property field. Prior to establishing her IP practice Arcadia Lawyers in 2010 Virginia was a partner of Phillips Ormonde Fitzpatrick. Virginia has also been a partner of Marks & Clerk, an international firm of Patent and Trade Marks attorneys.
Virginia holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the University of Sydney majoring in Biochemistry and Pure Mathematics. Virginia also holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Deakin University where she was named in Deakin University's Faculty of Business and Law Dean's Merit List for outstanding academic performance. Virginia is a Registered Australian and New Zealand Patent & Trade Marks Attorney; a Fellow of the Institute of Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia and a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Law Council of Australia.
During her time in the profession Virginia has worked closely with clients across all industries and technologies to gain an understanding of their needs and to deliver a tailored IP strategy that is commercially relevant. Whilst at Marks & Clerk Virginia was instrumental in obtaining the CSIRO IP contract for national phase entry and European Patent Validation work. Virginia advises on all aspects of the management, commercialisation and protection of intellectual property rights.
In addition to her everyday work, Virginia is an Author of the Patents Commentary in the LexisNexis (Butterworths) publication "Lahore: Patents, Trademark & Related Rights" and a member of the Patent Attorney Education Advisory Board at Monash University.
In 2015 Virginia was named as the Trade Mark Lawyer of the Year in Australia for the Corporate INTL Legal Awards and was recognised as a “key player” in the Australian market by Who's Who Legal Trade Marks 2015
