Indexed rent

My lease says that rent should be indexed according the CPI. However my landlord wants a market rent review. What can I do to stop him? I don't want to go to court and destroy our relationship.

Hello. Thank you for the question. If you are approaching a rent review period in the lease and the lease indicates that the rent review mechanism attributable to that rent review period is a CPI review, then a CPI review will need to be instituted.

Suggested way forward

You may wish to clarify with the landlord the basis upon which he or she is relying on a market review mechanism. If you have any further questions, I suggest you contact a legal adviser.
